The "Carrera RS" is the first true "client-competition" version of the 911 and it is still considered to be one of the best 911s ever built. To develop this version, the constructor relied on a tried and tested formula: reducing the weight and increasing the power. Aesthetic modifications, such as wider rear wheel arches to accommodate larger wheels and a rear " duck tail " spoiler made their appearance. For the interior, clients could choose between a " Touring " finish similar to the 911 S production model, or " Lightweight ", which was more stripped out to reduce the weight further. The final number built exceeded 1500, well above the 500 initially planned to gain GT homologation. Strengthened by this incredible success, the model evolved to incorporate new features, in line with racing regulations, maintaining the " client-competition " tradition that few other marques have been able to match as consistently.
The car on offer is a superb RS Touring presented in light yellow (ref.117) with black interior. According to the Porsche France certificate, it was first put into circulation on 1 July 1973 and was delivered new in Germany. In 2002 the car was imported into France by a Porsche specialist. The current owner, an experienced racing driver and meticulous collector, acquired it in 2015, and although the car presented correctly, he decided to have restoration work carried out. This 2.7RS was the subject of a feature in the specialist press in 2006. Having verified the authenticity of this example, the restoration by was carried out by professional specialists, managed by an expert appointed for the job. Once the identity and conformity of the car had been established, the aim of the restoration work was to conserve the original characteristics as far as possible. It was dismantled and the power train removed. Repairs were made to the bodywork where necessary and it was repainted its original yellow. The interior was also renovated, the upholstery refurbished, new carpets added and fittings in good condition conserved. The engine, which is the correct type, was rebuilt by the renowned specialist based in Rambouillet, Crubilé Sport in 2007, for the cost of over 20 000 €. At this point, the engine size was increased to 2.8-litre, and since then, the car has covered less than 5 000 km. The file that comes with the car contains information about other work carried out, including the refurbishment of the original gearbox. The owner, a meticulous collector, set very high standards for the project and the presentation and running condition of the car is excellent. It will be delivered with its owner's manual, jack, toolkit, protective cover, a photo report and a large file of invoices and expert reports. This is a highly desirable example of a legendary Porsche, set up and presented to a standard that will satisfy the most demanding of enthusiasts.
