In the 1950s, the Porsche 356 had been in production for too many years, so the automaker decided to create a new model. The technical project was followed by Ferry Porsche, while the aesthetic one by his son. This tried in every way to create a cabin that was suitable for four people. But he soon gave up on this feat and fell back on the classic 2 + 2. Immediately the line of the car turned out to be elegant and balanced. The first version was presented in 1963 and is still in production, although it is fair to distinguish two very different categories. The first produced from 1963 to 1997 which always has an air-cooled engine, the second produced from 1998 to today and which has modern engines.

Between 1968 and 1973 the Touring model became the best known of the 911 series. Thanks also to the lengthened wheelbase of 57mm which improved ride comfort and solved the stability problems present on the previous series.
They enhanced the beauty of this car by making the bumpers, rear ventilation grille, round rear-view mirrors and horn grille shine with chrome.

Negli anni cinquanta la Porsche 356 era in produzione ormai da troppi anni, così la casa automobilistica decise di creare un nuovo modello. Il progetto tecnico venne seguito da Ferry Porsche, mentre quello estetico dal figlio. Questo cercò in tutti i modi di creare un abitacolo che fosse adatto ad ospitare quattro persone. Ben presto però rinunciò a questa impresa e ripiegò sul classico 2+2. Subito la linea della vettura risultò essere elegante ed equilibrata. La prima versione venne presentata nel 1963 ed è tuttora in produzione, sebbene sia giusto distinguere due categorie ben diverse. La prima prodotta dal 1963 al 1997 cha ha sempre il motore raffreddato ad aria, la seconda prodotta dal 1998 ad oggi e che ha motori moderni.

Fra il 1968 e il 1973 il modello Touring divenne quello più conosciuto della serie 911. Grazie anche al passo allungato di 57mm che migliorava il comfort di marcia e risolveva i problemi di stabilità, presenti sulla precedente serie.
Esaltarono la bellezza di questa vettura, facendo risplendere con cromature i paraurti, la griglia di ventilazione posteriore, gli specchi retrovisori tondi e la griglia del clacson.
