Presented in 1963 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 911 went on sale in 1964. The first version of what would become an automotive legend was fitted at the time with a type 901/01 engine, a six-cylinder aluminium unit developing 130 bhp and fed by six single-barrel Solex carburettors. With a capacity of 1991 cc and maximum torque of 174 Nm at 4200 rpm, it had a crankshaft with seven main bearings, making clear that it was designed to receive significant increases in power. The 911 was undoubtedly a tremendous road car, but it was of course on racetracks around the world that it made a name for itself, achieving an unrivalled record in competition. Several other versions were developed on the basis of this engine, including the appearance of the first 911 S, producing 160 bhp and fitted for the first time with Fuchs light alloy wheels. In 1969 came the transition to fuel injection and the adoption of a 2.2-litre engine, which was in turn bored out to 2.4 litres in 1972, with T , E and S variants developing respectively 130, 165 and 190 bhp. Initially produced in short-wheelbase (or SWB) form, from 1968 the 911 moved for good to the long-wheelbase chassis, intended to provide it with greater stability.

The model shown on these pages is one of the 1,492 examples of the Porsche 911 2.0 S coupé built in 1968. It was first registered on 17 March 1963 by the exclusive French importer Sonauto in Levallois. At that time, it was equipped with the 1991 cc flat 6 with 170 bhp at 6800 rpm and came in an Ivory colour and black leatherette interior, a combination that it still wears today. It was in September 1981 that its second owner acquired it and it joined his collection installed in his Beaujolais estate. He uses it as much as he can and starts restoring the mechanics in 1990 at the Porsche-Mitsubishi Universal Cars specialist in Lyon. Between 1991 and 1993, he will spend nearly 80,000 francs justified in the important file of invoices that comes with the car. Passionate about mechanics but also extremely careful, its owner maintains his Porsche with the utmost attention and in 2006 he obtains his FIVA identity card. Gentleman Driver in his spare time, he enters his Porsche in the Tour Auto 2006 and then in the Ronde du Ventoux 2009 and 2011. In 2018, almost 40 years after buying his beloved 911, he participates in the Paris Rally and finally decides to give the car to his daughter who entrusts it to us for sale today. In March 2018, a complete overhaul of the mechanics is carried out. Removal of the engine, gearbox, gearbox repair, replacement of the clutch, overhaul of the ignition and injection, running gear, overhaul of the electrical harness, everything goes through, for a total amount of 15 689 €. French original, equipped with its original engine, perfectly documented, certified by Porsche France and in very good working order, this 911 2.0 S car is probably one of the most authentic known on the territory to this day.
