Description

"On 29th August 1974, Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and the mother of Ferdinand Piëch, got a very special 70th birthday present, a Porsche 911 in silver metallic. What made this car special, not indistinguishable from a normal 911 at first sight, was the badge ‘Carrera’ at the rear. The body was standard and only the rear wing gave a hint at what was special under the body. In the tail was a 3.0 litre engine with a turbo charger. At that time, nobody imagined that the turbo would be what it is today. In 1986, Porsche finally offered the Flatnose, called ‘Flachbau’ in German, straight from the factory. The official designation in the UK was Turbo SE, also sometimes referred to as the Slantnose. Offered as the ultimate 930 Turbo, this model had an upgraded body and a 330bhp engine. Costing nearly double the standard model, the Flatnose was rarely ordered. Before 1986, Porsche had offered the Flatnose body option from its customer service department known as ‘Sonderwünschen’. These were handmade cars, not limited to just the Turbo, but the Carrera and Carrera SC as well. Despite the panels being slightly heavier, they were modelled after the Porsche 935 race car for top speed. The conversion required extended rocker panels, wider rear flares with scooped vents and flip-up headlights up front with functional louvres.
This striking Porsche 911 Turbo is believed to be one of the 58 flatnose cars built without pop-up headlights by Porsches ‘Special Wishes’ department. Previously owned by Sheikh Salman Hethlain, the car now forms part of a deceased estate. Presenting well in Grand Prix White with a white leather interior, the looks are enhanced by a factory fitted sunroof. We are informed that this 911 Turbo fired up when requested however, having stood for over three years we believe that the fuel injection system requires attention, the car will require recommissioning to be fully roadworthy. The comprehensive file for this car contains a V5C registration document, previous MoT test certificates and main dealer receipts for servicing works completed. Also present is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. This realistically estimated 911 Turbo could prove to be a rewarding project and enjoyable investment.
