As is often the case, changing regulations in International Motorsport dictated that manufacturers produced a certain number of a particular model and Porsche, as always, were quick to react offering them the perfect opportunity to provide their customers with a state-of-the-art, track-ready 911 that could be road-registered if so desired

The GT3 RS has a slightly different engine specification to the 996 GT3, with the cylinder heads having reshaped intake and exhaust ports to comply with race homologation regulations, however, horsepower remained the same. The new car's increased performance was due to a handful of other alterations. The wheel carriers were totally redesigned to maximize the improved dynamic camber control, the suspension top mounts can be turned 120 degrees to a "Cup Car" position, and both front and rear control arms were adjustable. Wider tires were fitted and a large rear spoiler was fitted to help increase downforce. Weight was shed through a reduction of interior sound deadening, air conditioning, rear seats, a polycarbonate rear window and a carbon fibre bonnet. These changes meant that the GT3 RS tipped the scales at just 1,360 kilograms, 50 kilograms lighter than the standard GT3. With a 0–60 mph time of 4.2 seconds leading to a top speed of 190 mph, the GT3 RS certainly was no slouch. All examples were fitted with a full roll cage and finished in white with either red or light blue trim, in a nod to the 2.7 RS of 1973.

This remarkable 996 GT3RS was supplied new in right-hand drive by Porsche Centre Hatfield and registered to its one and only owner on 23/3/2004. The essence of the RS is its lack of excess weight so they are never overburdened with comfort options but this car was fitted from new with a White centre console, colour-coded roll cage, air conditioning, a CD player, and Xenon headlamps.

The term 'comprehensive service history' is one we use frequently but in the case of this fastidiously maintained car, it's true.

Minor Service 08/04/04 998 miles Porsche Centre Hatfield

Minor Service 18/01/05 5,350 miles Hatfield

Major Service inc brake fluid change 10/01/06 9,310 miles Porsche Centre Cambridge

Minor Service 05/03/07 14,672 miles Cambridge

Major plus plugs inc brake fluid change 14/01/08 17,851 miles Cambridge

Minor 23/02/09 22,404 miles Cambridge

Minor plus brake fluid change 03/03/10 25,018 miles Cambridge

Oil and Filter 09/03/11 27979 miles Cambridge

Minor plus brake fluid change 08/03/12 28729 miles Hatfield

Minor 19/03/13 28,952 Hatfield

Oil, filter and Gearbox oil 5/6/13 30,762 miles Cambridge

Oil, filter and Gearbox oil plus brake fluid change 13/3/14 31,776 miles Cambridge

Major 19/6/15 34,136 miles Cambridge

Minor plus brake fluid change 2/3/16 35,013 miles Cambridge

Minor 23/3/17 35,649 Cambridge.

All stamps in the book are complete including the 'Record of long life guarantee condition reports' at 2,4,6 and 8 years carried out at Porsche Centre Hatfield and Cambridge along with the 'Airbag systems checks' after 4 and 8 years. If we had to pick one fault there are the usual, well documented tiny bubbles in the carbon bonnet which many RS's suffered from but it does go to prove the honesty of the car.

If you are in the market for a GT 3 RS to be proud of then becoming the second owner of this immaculate example could be a very good move.
