The car we are offering ran in the Le Mans Twenty Four hours in 1998 and 1999, entered by Estoril Racing Communication in the GT 2 category. It was driven by father and son Manuel and Michel Monteiro and the professional driver, Michel Maisonneuve. As a matter of interest, it could be said that this car is one of the last to run when a private owner could enter Le Mans and compete effectively. In 1998, after running fourth in its category, the car had to retire after twenty three hours when the engine blew up. In the following year it was eliminated in an accident after twelve hours. Normally racing cars are modified over the years, but this 993 GT2 Evo remains as it was for the 1998 Le Mans and still conforms to BPR regulations.
With even better performance than the 993 3.8 RSR, The GT2 Evo combines the best points of the two models with its 510 BHP and 1150 Kg weight. It has a six speed G50 gearbox with a strengthened clutch, special ratios and an 80 pct locking differential. The engine has been tuned to optimize power, torque and reliability; with mechanical rocker arms, special cam shafts and KKK K24 turbos, intercooler, variable TAGtronic electronics which adjusts to different engine revs. These engines can develope up to 650 BHP, but this 3.6l with a twin spark is tuned to give more than 510 BHP and 650 NM torque at 5,000 rpm.
The bodywork has been modified and the wings have been flared to accommodate wider tyres, 245 mm at the front and 305 mm at the back. The car has a number of aerodynamic aids as well as elements in fibreglass and carbon fibre. The roll cage is welded to the chassis and to the shock absorber mounts to maximize rigidity. The brakes are 380 mm four caliper discs at the front and 322mm at the rear. The car was repainted in its 1998 Le Mans livery just before its current owner bought it in 2003. A gentleman driver of 20 years experience, the owner has regularly exercised the car at the Vigeant circuit, using it at Sports and Collector Car days. The owner has his own mechanic who does the car's maintenance but in anticipation of this sale, the 993 GT2 was sent to Larbre Compétition for servicing. The car has Porsche AG identity papers, as well as its sales invoice dated 28th February 1997.
With the popularity of Group C historic racing and the likely return of BPR racing, GT cars of the Nineties are becoming a good investment. The cars offer historic race organizers a good day's racing with prestigious entries and close racing. And this car will be there with the best of them.
