This car is an absolute rarity, being one of the twenty Porsche 911 Carrera Targas with a 210 bhp, 2,7L type 911/83 engine, built specially for the Belgian police in 1976. Having previously used the 911E coupé, the police wanted an open car so they could signal to drivers being intercepted. Porsche proposed Targa versions and in 1976 the Belgian police received twenty Porsche 911 Targas with the special feature of a 2.7-litre Carrera engine, giving a top speed of over 240 km/h. These cars left lasting memories on those who came across them (for better or for worse !)
The car on offer, with a specific chassis number, is one of this highly unusual series. It comes with a file containing period documents that allow us to follow its history. Having served in the police force, it was sold at auction in April 1981, and the original purchase slip from the Belgian authorities indicates that it came from Rolin station. It was from here that the first civil owner took possession of the car, taking it to the D'Ieteren garage for a full-scale service, at which point the engine was exchanged for an invoiced, reconditioned one. Following the death of the first owner, his wife sold the car to our collector who proceeded to carry out a restoration lasting several years. The result was magnificent and we have part of the invoices for this work. Nothing was left to chance and the bodywork, mechanics and interior have been completely refurbished. This car has originality, rarity, an open Targa body and the power of an RS : a formidable cocktail for any Porsche enthusiast.
