Continuous improvement is a mantra at Porsche. In line with this approach, changes made to their cars are usually incremental without unnecessary modifications. The all-new 996-generation 911 debuted in 1999 and featured a number of these incremental improvements that are still utilized today. A new water-cooled engine design reduced emissions and engine noise while simultaneously increasing power. Aerodynamic testing produced a body shape that reduced drag and increased top speed.

Changes made to the headlight design, altered simply for their novel appearance did not go to plan. For 1999 Porsche integrated the front turn signals and accessory lights into the headlight design reversing 50 years of ellipsoid shape headlight tradition beginning with the first 356. Porsche purists were not pleased. Porsche retreated quickly, adding a curved radius to the bottom edge in 2001 exclusively for the Turbo. By 2005, Porsche smartly returned to the traditional 911 headlight shape. The result was that the 997 generation of the 911 turbo was certain to be a sure-fire styling and engineering success, one that returned to traditional 911 looks and in usual Porsche tradition featured a raft of under-the-skin improvements throughout. With an engine based on the 911 GT1's power plant, output increased to 480 hp with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) reducing turbo lag at low speeds. Weight was reduced with the new 997 Turbo tipping the scales 90 lb lighter than its predecessor. Zero-to-sixty performance was startling with 3.9 seconds for the manual and a stunning 3.7 seconds for those Turbos equipped with the optional $3,420 five-speed Tiptronic S transmission.

This 2007 911 Turbo is a single owner example, used sparingly, having covered fewer than 10,500 miles from new at the time of cataloging. Specially ordered from Beverly Hills Porsche and picked up at the factory utilizing Porsche's fantastic European Tourist Delivery program, it is equipped with a considerable slate of factory options totalling $29,810. Optional Slate Grey Metallic paint, Natural Brown leather interior, Sport Chrono Package and Tiptronic S transmission were all added to the final purchase price. Once this special 997 Turbo completed its trip down the assembly line, it rolled into Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur department, where fully bespoke customizations come to life. It was here that it received a host of custom, factory enhancements. These include 11 line items for additional interior leather with a number of exterior pieces, typically black plastic, painted in body color. These special wishes brought the final price to a substantial $153,570.

As a single-owner example this 911 Turbo has many of the hallmarks of careful ownership. It retains both main keys and valet key as well as a full set of books, the original window sticker, and copies of invoices from Beverly Hills Porsche for service work dating back to 2009. At consignment, it received a paint meter inspection, which revealed all-original paint with all readings between 3 and 5.4 mils. It is an unmodified, original example of the generation of 911 that returned to its iconic, pre-996 headlight design, pleasing purists and collectors alike.
