It is the successor of the 993 and the first 911 with a water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine. The Porsche 996 is the fifth generation in the evolution of the original (air-cooled) 911. The water-cooled engine changed Porsche’s typical exhaust sound. By adjusting the exhausts, engineers managed to produce a similar sound as with an air-cooled engine. A very important part of the design of the 996 was done by the Dutchman Harm Lagaay. The design of the 996 is radically different from its predecessor, the 993. The round headlights have been replaced by oval ones. The "4S" and "Turbo" versions are 6 cm wider at the back than the standard Carrera versions. The Turbo versions feature air intakes on the rear wheels and a permanent spoiler on the back. The interior was also renewed, the five characteristic gauges were no longer placed in a row but more "in each other".

This is an original Dutch 996, delivered new by Porsche centrum Eindhoven in the spring of 2001. On 16-03-2001 to be precise. It’s a manual Carrera 4 with the well-known 3.4L engine. The exterior has the special colour L744 from Porsche. Pretty much all its life maintained by official Porsche dealers, a Porsche approved warranty was issued twice. Which says a lot about its maintenance. This can all be found in the maintenance documentation, it is more than complete with a stamped Porsche maintenance booklet, user manuals, numerous Porsche maintenance lists and invoices.
