From a stylistic point of view, the differences compared to the previous 964 series were evident: the bumpers, wider and with more rounded lines, were made with the use of deformable plastic. The front bumper was integrated into the bodywork and presented and the front lights were made with a more accentuated angle of inclination than the previous models, and the new polyellipsoidal headlights were used which, thanks to particular lenses that regulated the luminous flux, they guaranteed a better performance in conditions of poor visibility and caused less disturbance to vehicles moving in the opposite direction. The taillights remained faithful to tradition; also on the Porsche 911 993 series there was the reflective connecting strip bearing the word “Porsche” which joined the lights. The rear hood, like the previous 964, integrated a self-extracting spoiler.

The Porsche 911 993 series sees the debut of the aluminum multi-link (or multi-link) rear suspension, designed to optimize wheel oscillations and make the rear of the car more stable, which allowed a more comfortable drive thanks to the absorption of the vibrations, but at the same time ensured greater responsiveness in cornering by reducing oversteer. The Porsche 993 was the last 911 with an air-cooled engine. Initially it was produced in Coupé and Cabriolet versions, only in 1995 did the Targa version debut which, unlike previous generations, was not equipped with a removable hard top but with an electric opening window. Also in 1995, the Carrera 4 and 911 Turbo versions, both with all-wheel drive, were launched on the market, in addition to the rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera. The Porsche 911 Carrera, with a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter boxer engine, produced 272 HP, as did the Carrera 4. The power of the naturally aspirated engine increased to 285 HP starting in 1995; thanks to some updates made by the Stuttgart house. The 911 Turbo, with the 3.6 supercharged by two turbochargers, developed 408 hp and at the same time boasted very low levels of CO2 emissions.

The fourth generation of the Porsche 911 saw the birth of 3 new versions: The Carrera 4S, the Carrera S, the GT2. The 993 Carrera 4S had four-wheel drive while the rear Carrera S; both were built on the basis of the enlarged bodywork of the Porsche 911 Turbo. The GT2 version had rear-wheel drive only and was equipped with the 911 Turbo engine; it developed 450 hp of power and weighed less than 1300 kg; it sprinted from 0 to 100 in 4.1 seconds and touched the top speed of 300 km / h. The Porsche 993 GT2 was produced in only 100 examples. A limited version was also produced, the Carrera RS, equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8 engine that developed 296 hp; with its low weight and large fixed wing on the rear hood, the RS was devoted primarily to the racetrack. The 993 series was the first Porsche model made with the 6-speed manual transmission, which ensured more efficient management of engine power. The Porsche 911 993 series was produced from 1993 to 1998 in 68,881 examples.
