The 356 series continued through July 1963, when the 356Cs appeared; these were the last and arguably best of the early pushrod Porsches, available in steadily diminishing numbers through 1966. Constant improvement was again quite evident - including more horsepower and the arrival of standard four-wheel disc brakes.

Chassis number 217039 is an SC Karmann Coupe completed on March 3, 1964 and delivered new on May 15, 1964 in Black over Red leatherette upholstery, with chrome disc wheels, outside mirror, and extended steering column. Powered by a "Super" Type 6/16 1600cc engine, the Porsche was purchased new by August C. Jaeger of Lake Arrowhead, California. While the 356's earliest history is unknown, it is believed to have spent the remaining early half of its life in Southern California, prior to relocating with a previous caretaker of 15+ years to the East Coast around the turn of 1990. Servicing records from 1982-2002 document care and ownership during that era, while within the last few years the Porsche was kept in static garage storage.

217039's engine number 811695 and transmission 77116 both correspond to the original delivery details transcribed on the 356's Porsche Kardex – which is also included with the documentation. In 1987, the car would receive a repaint to its current "candy apple red" lacquer - over a silver basecoat. The finish remains usable as a "driver", paired to its largely original undercarriage/chassis.

The cabin's front chairs and carpeting were reupholstered at some point in years past, while the rear seats, surrounds, headliner, sun visors, and dash pad are original to the vehicle – however, the majority dyed black to match. The metal dashboard displays its original Schwarz paint, as the exterior wore. An original tube of Porsche touchup paint resides in the glove compartment. The odometer reads 59,941 miles. Period Porsche branded lap belts and a later Blaupunkt Seattle radio complement. Both the luggage and engine compartments appear orderly, with the front containing an original, correct C tool roll and jack. The rear deck lid and front bonnet hinge display corresponding #39 body stamping as well as evidence of the original black paint. Crested hubcaps are fitted to 1968 dated chrome wheels and 2013 mounted tires.

Attractively optioned, this 1964 Porsche 356SC presents the opportunity to mechanically service and enjoy as-is, or an excellent base to return to its striking original livery. Offered exclusively to our newsletter subscribers for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
