1961 Porsche 356 B T6 'Twin Grille' Roadster by D'Ieteren.

The iconic and truly rare twin-grille 356 B T6 Roadster was only produced during 1961 by Belgian coach builders D`Ieteren, of which only 248 cars were built. After the 356 B T5 bodystyle was discontinued in 1961, Porsche decided to outsource production of this new variant, same as they had done with the T5 Roadsters which were built by Drauz. Nonetheless, after the small batch of cars were produced, Porsche decided to halt production in favour of the T6 Cabriolet, which was sold during 1962 and 1963. Aside from the Carrera cars, these are perhaps the most special and rarest of the Porsche 356 models.

The new 356B was available with three different pushrod engines, the 1600 and 1600S continuing unchanged but with the addition of the new Super 90 featuring twin-choke carburettors, larger inlet valves and a reworked cylinder head to increase power output. The brakes were improved, with better friction linings and the drums now had 72 light alloy ribs to keep them cool.

As only 58 cars were fitted originally with the Super 90 engine, apparently it was a fairly common conversion to fit the 1600 models with the Super 90 engines in period, as must be the case with this unit.

According to the Porsche Certificate, the unit offered left the factory on 13th November 1961 and was imported to San Francisco (USA) by Porsche Car Pacific. Its early history is not know, but the car was importad back to Germany many years ago, from where its current Spanish owner acquired it.

The new fastidious owner, a Porsche collector from Madrid, commissioned a total restoration to the German Porsche 356 specialist Hackenberg, who carried out the work between 2006 and 2008. There is a complete photo set of the restoration process and many invoices totalising up to 50.000 euros, although very probably the total cost was much higher.

The car is presented in its attractive original colours Reihergrau (a sort of english old white) and green upholstery. The car has seen little use in the last years but has been always kept running and well cared. It has valid normal Spanish documents.
