Completed 20 October 1959, this US-specification 356 B Drauz Roadster was finished in Silver Metallic over Black leatherette. It was shipped to Inter Continental Motors in San Antonio, Texas, and thence to its first owner. With the introduction of the restyled 356 B in 1960, the one-year-only 1959 ‘Convertible D’ built by Karosserie Drauz was renamed the Roadster. This example was one of only 560 Drauz ‘single-grille’ roadsters built that year.

At some unknown point in this car’s life, its original 60 hp Normal engine was replaced with a 1600 Super from 1961, which delivered a more satisfying 75 horsepower. A subsequent owner eventually brought this car to California, and it was then exported to England, where it was completely refurbished in the 1980s. Its owners have used it extensively for both touring and concours events, and it has been featured in many publications.

This roadster is now painted a period-correct Ruby Red with black upholstery and grey carpets, and fitted with a black canvas folding top, boot, and tonneau cover, CoCo mats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and chrome wheels and hubcaps. A thrilling car to drive and enjoy.

Este 356 B Drauz Roadster versão americana ficou pronto na fábrica a 20 de outubro de 1959. Lacado em cinza prata metalizado e com interior em pele sintética preta, foi despachado para a firma InterContinental Motors, em San António, no Texas, sendo posteriormente entregue ao seu primeiro dono. Com a introdução do renovado 356 B, em 1960, este Convertible D, produzido na Dreuz e lançado apenas um ano antes, foi rebatizado como Roadster. Este exemplar é um de apenas 560 ‘roadsters’ Drauz de apenas uma grelha produzidos nesse ano.

Em determinado momento da sua vida, o motor Normal de 60 cv foi substituído por um 1600 Super de 1961, que disponibiliza uma potência superior, de 75 cavalos. Um dos proprietários seguintes levou-o para a Califórnia. Dali foi exportado para Inglaterra, onde foi completamente restaurado nos anos 80. Os seus proprietários utilizaram-no amiúde, tanto para viajar como para participar em concursos de elegância. Figurou também em diversas publicações especializadas.

Este roadster está agora pintado num vermelho Ruby correto para a época, com interior preto e revestimento do piso cinzento. Tem uma capota em napa preta, revestimento da mala e cobertura do habitáculo tipo “tonneau”, tapetes CoCo mats, um volante com aro de madeira, rodas e tampões dos cubos de roda cromados.
