With Cadillac, Packard represented in the 1920s and 1930s the top end of the American car brands. Popular with celebrities, politicians, wealthy dandies and gangsters too, the Packard brand continued as a prestige car maker till the 1940s.
With the Packard branding the Caribbean was launched in 1953 - a luxury convertible that capped the range and incorporating some of the features from the Pan American show car shown the year earlier. It had a grille which incorporated the traditional design of the brand, with a rounded front, with thick chrome bars that are line with fashion then. The rear featured an external spare wheel hidden under a cover, using the "Continental" configuration. In 1954, the model gained a few luxurious details such as the lower rear wheel hubcaps and the headlamps.
