Description

In anticipation of its 50th anniversary along with GM Divisions Buick and Cadillac, Oldsmobile debuted its top-of-the-line Fiesta on the 1953 show circuit and released it for sale later that year, completing the famous GM Triple Crown convertibles. Based on the full-size Ninety-Eight series with a 124" wheelbase, the cleanly styled Fiesta was the first Oldsmobile to be equipped with a fashionable Panoramic wraparound-style windshield. Two-tone paint finishes, custom leather upholstery, and an uprated higher-compression Rocket V-8 engine mated to an automatic transmission were standard equipment. The Fiesta’s amenities were plentiful, including the Autronic Eye headlight dimmer, backup lights, power-operated brakes and steering, hydraulic power windows and front seat, a heater/defroster, Super Deluxe radio, whitewall tires, and flipper hubcaps. Priced from $5,715, just 458 of these Motorama-inspired Oldsmobiles were produced.

Already restored shortly prior to acquisition by noted Michigan-based collector John McMullen in 1997, this Fiesta was acquired by Peter Klutt in June 2007, and it subsequently was given a complete frame-off restoration by a marque specialist with virtually no expense spared. Careful, climate-controlled storage followed its completion, with the Fiesta perfectly complementing its Buick Skylark and Cadillac Eldorado counterparts to form the Klutt Collection’s coveted Triple Crown–or Grand Slam–grouping of the top GM offerings from 1953. Striking throughout, this historic, low-production Fiesta is one of the most stylish and best-equipped convertibles of the celebrated Motorama era.
