Description
Building upon the New Generation upscale Mercedes-Benz models, the W111-series 280 SE 3.5 debuted in late 1969 and filled American demand for an elite V-8 model from Stuttgart. Beautiful wooden interior trim, top-quality leather, restrained brightwork, startling performance, and vault-solid construction heightened the experience. From August 1969 through July 1971, just 4,502 of these elegant and glamorous – yet sporty – examples were built, mostly by hand, numbering 1,232 cabriolets and 3,270 coupes.
Benefiting from long-term single ownership in Pasadena from 1972 to 2014 – when the consignor acquired it – this 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupe was recently restored. Repainted in the original Tobacco Brown (DB 423), the car was also fitted with a new windshield and rear window. The engine and transmission were rebuilt by a Mercedes-Benz specialist, and mechanicals were refurbished or replaced with numerous NOS components. Inside, the leather is new and the woodwork was refurbished, and the engine compartment presents very well. Features include a floor-shifted automatic transmission, power windows, radio, plus air-conditioning and a sunroof. A cultural and stylistic icon, the 280 SE 3.5 Coupe rightly enjoys growing and intense collector interest today, giving you yet another reason to experience its many delights for yourself.
