The Mercedes W111 Coupe was introduced as the successor to the Ponton Coupe series in February 1961 and started as the 220 SE Coupe, it was based on the W111 platform, the so-called tail fin. Technically, the coupes correspond to the sedans and remained in production until May 1971, 6 years longer than their four-door sister models. In contrast to the sedans, they have no fashionable tail fins, a lower roof line, and as a result appear overall more elegant and timeless, which gave them classic status much earlier. This timelessness also made it possible to build them virtually unchanged parallel to the successors of the 111 sedans, the S-Classes of the W 108 / W 109 series. The W111 Coupe was offered with different engines. Six-cylinder units were offered as 220 SE, 250 SE and 280 SE, as well as eight-cylinder units as 280 SE 3.5. The 3.5 V8 engine with 200 hp was the crowning glory. At the last major facelift in 1969, the front was revised. The radiator grille has become wider and flatter, the bonnet is flatter. These models are called “flat coolers” among collectors and were produced in small numbers. Only 3,270 vehicles of the W111.026 with the V8 engine were produced. Such a vehicle is here. The vehicle we offered was delivered to Mr. Wilhelm Kluge for the first time in Berlin, it was one of the first vehicles with the new eight-cylinder engine, it had the chassis number 55. We bought the car in 2015 and had it technically put in excellent condition. The extensive work was done by the respected specialist Mathias Schubert of the company AI Motors in Stutensee. A lot of work has also been done to improve the optic, please see the complete list below. The original leather interior was cleaned and the front seats were given new seat covers, the original carpet was shampooed, the wood was stripped and repainted. The missing log books were purchased again, as well the original tools with bag. The vehicle was then sold to the current owner, a good customer of our company in 2016 and was used regularly by him. The Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 offered here is a very honest, rustproof car that pleases with its beautiful patina. It has small optical defects such as small dents in the rear bumper, slight patina on the paint and chrome. Evidently, 43000 ,-- Euro were invested in the repair. The accident-free vehicle in the best technical condition is provided with a fresh TÜV before delivery. Now it should come into new hands, the car is sold of health reasons. It is immediately ready for use and will be checked again by us before delivery. The exact equipment can be found in the following description. I am happy to answer any further questions you may have. The vehicle is sold on behalf of the customer.
