Description
"With a production run that started in 1959 and finished in 1968, the Mercedes-Benz W111 series was the top of the range line-up for the German manufacturer. The addition of two-door coupés and cabriolets was made in 1961. These new models were the replacement for the two-door Pontons and factory prototypes show that Mercedes-Benz attempted to give the two-door car a front styling similar to the Pagoda roadster. The rear bodywork persisted and although officially called a fintail the rear end design had no chrome fin highlights. The coupé was premiered in Stuttgart for the 75th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
This attractive Mercedes Coupé presents well in dark blue with a contrasting white roof and a black interior. We are informed the car runs well every time of asking. Built originally as a convertible, KCK 785F is now coupé bodied with ‘stacked headlights’ and the accompanying history file shows over £30,000 worth of works with renowned marque specialist, Roger Edwards. Some of these costs were related to making the car suitable for rallying by a former owner. These items have subsequently been removed. The paperwork file for this car also contains lengthy correspondence with the DVLA who have recently and rightly agreed to register this 220SE with an age-related number plate from 1967. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and although exempt by age an MoT test certificate valid until January 2021.
