- Superb design by Paul Bracq
- Comfortable and reliable four-seater coupé
- Attractively presented and carefully maintained
Mercedes-Benz made quite an impression when it presented its new W111 range at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 17 September 1959. The lines of its new bodywork had been drawn by the famous designer Paul Bracq. The coupé was particularly elegant, a perfect blend of the classical and the modern. It was powered by a 2195cc 6-cylinder engine and could transport four passengers in speed and comfort. It quickly became the car of choice for members of high society. Sold until 1965, just 14,173 cars were built.
The model which we are offering for sale was delivered new to its first owner in 1964 and is fitted with automatic transmission and power steering. It is finished in dark grey with a most attractive red leather interior. Restored six years ago, the bodywork was completely refurbished (see restoration photo), while the mechanical components have been regularly maintained. Nor has the interior been overlooked: the upholstery, carpets and wood trim were restored in 2014 and still look new. In September 2016, a major service was carried out at a Mercedes dealership in the Paris area. This covered the engine, brakes, running gear and shock absorbers, at a total cost in excess of 5000 €. The Mercedes presents very well and everything works as befits a car of its status. With its comfort and silence, it is very pleasant to drive.
This stylish coupé appeals to more and more enthusiasts on account of its numerous qualities, its elegance and legendary reliability. Highly desirable in this colour combination, good examples are rare and restorations are expensive, making this an excellent opportunity to acquire a car which has already been restored and is offered at an attractive estimated price.
