Description

"Introduced in early 1971, the 3rd generation SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but it still showed a slight resemblance. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generations of SLs, the vehicle came as an open roadster with a removable hardtop roof.  The R107 body shape went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz, remaining in production until 1989 with some 13 variants during the production run. The car featured a two-door monocoque body shell with independent suspension all round, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the front, semi-trailing arms, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the rear.
Originally registered on 30th August 1983, this R107 Mercedes-Benz is fitted with a manual gearbox. With only two owners from new, this 280 SL has clearly been well cared for and is best described as a good, thoroughly useable example. Finished in silver with black leather interior and fitted with the desirable rear seats, it is supplied with a hardtop. This great sportscar from the 80’s comes with a V5C registration document, a full years MoT and a good history folder. Very attractively estimated.
