Description

To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Auctions America’s Santa Monica event, June 25-26, 2016.

Estimate:
$ 90,000 - $110,000 US

Mercedes-Benz introduced the 280SL in 1967. It was offered as a coupe, roadster or combination roadster-coupe. The cars were distinguished by their concave hardtop, nicknamed the “Pagoda.” One source stated the 280SL had a maximum speed of 121-mph, a testament to its sports car pedigree. Adding to the comfort and handling of the car was its independent front and rear suspension. In 1971, the last year of production, Mercedes-Benz produced 830 examples of the 280SL.

This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is presented in Horizon Blue with a navy blue canvas soft-top and hardtop. The car has benefitted from what’s described as an “over the top” restoration. This 280SL is powered by a 2.8-liter six-cylinder engine which is paired to an automatic transmission. Power options on the car include steering and four-wheel disc brakes. The interior of the car is completed in navy blue leather. The interior features a Becker Europa radio. Included with the car is a jack and tool roll. Beautifully detailed throughout, this late Pagoda is in excellent condition.
