First of the iconic Mercedes W113
Finished in Signal Red with Black hardtop and black leather
A desirable manual example
Restored to the highest standards

Representing Mercedes` trend towards producing more usable and practical sports cars, the 230/250/280SL line was meant to replace both the 190SL and the illustrious 300SL. The car was a comfortable two-seater that was to be neither too big nor too expensive, and exhibited excellent roadholding thanks to the innovative and sophisticated rear suspension design. Built to Mercedes` usually high standards and employing excellent visibility, the cars were popular and sold well.

The 230SL was the first in the iconic Pagoda Lineage (named Pagoda after the shape of their hardtop) and was already an impressive car, both as a boulevard cruiser and a sports car. The most notable example of its sporting potential was demonstrated in 1963 when the legendary Mercedes Chief Engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, drove the 230SL round the tight Annemasse Vtraz-Monthoux circuit in France, achieving a time of 47.3 seconds which was a mere 0.2 seconds slower than a time achieved by Mike Parkes in a Ferrari 250GT SWB. This performance capability, combined with its stunning and timeless design made for a hugely successful car which would truly reflect the future of Mercedes SLs.

Finished in an elegant colour combination of Signalrot with a Schwarz hardtop and Schwarzleder interior, our 230SL is a truly stunning example of one of the most universally beloved Mercedes of all time. Subjected to a recent restoration, the car presents beautifully, certainly one of the very best 230SLs available anywhere. But importantly, whilst not only beautiful to look at, our car really drives wonderfully and the experience is only improved by manual gearbox which helps give the car a more sporting feel. We are very proud to present to you such a brilliant SL, both cosmetically and mechanically restored to the very highest standards, not to be missed!
