Description
A pagoda with a ZF 5-speed manual gearbox is a rare sight indeed. Of around 20’000 230 SL built, roughly 100 examples left the works with the “option 230” in their data card. The example here is one of those exceedingly rare SLs and was delivered in Germany on the 1st July 1966. According to the information available the car was later shipped to South Africa where in March 2002 it was acquired and taken back to Switzerland by an enthusiast. In April of the same year the 230 SL was taken to the German specialist Stickel where around 18’000 euros were spent in preparation for the upcoming Swiss MOT. In 2015 the cabrio was taken to Germany once again where another specialist completed a repaint in its original colour, a reupholstering of the seats which were then re-covered in new leather to original specification and a set of new carpets. In May 2023, around 500 kilometres ago, the pagoda was brought to Stickel once again and the rear axle as well as the brakes received an overhaul. Receipts for restoration work and maintenance for around 50’000 francs since 2002 are available and will be handed over with the car. This Pagoda has a matching numbers engine, gearbox and rear axle and presents itself in the original colour combination. The timeless cabriolet stems from a 20-year ownership and is in good to very good condition with the last Veteran MOT completed in May 2024.
