Anyone for a wonderfully restored matching numbers 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL?
The car was originally supplied in Nebraska, the USA. The second owner kept the car from 1964 to 2015! In 2015 the car made its way over to Europe where it was treated to a comprehensive nut & bolt restoration.
The bodywork was taken back to bare metal before being resprayed in the wonderful grey finish it has today. Between 2015 to 2018 the car was painstakingly restored with evident success. The beautifully aligned panelwork has been kept nice and thin. The chrome brightwork looks great. Clearly, a lot of love care and attention went into restoring this car to its former glory. The quality of the paintwork has a lovely lustre. There is a new brown coloured hood in place with the frame having been resprayed too. The tight-fitting hood contrasts splendidly with the grey paint finish. We also ought to mention the matching tonneau cover for when the hood is down.
The interior trim was fully reupholstered. The woodwork has been splendidly restored. The dashboard has also been reupholstered and resprayed to match. The gauges look lovely together with a new
steering wheel and gear knob. The carpets are in a lovely burgundy red and the seat leather is of a fetching terracotta colour. The inside is at least as inviting as the outside.
Mechanically the car was fully overhauled during the restoration. The 2.0-litre engine has twin Solex carburettors, lending a delightful relaxed driving character to this 190SL. Both suspension and brakes were completely replaced, meaning this 190SL drives and handles as a 190SL should. The gear change is exact and the car steers most comfortably.
The restoration was recorded in an extensive photo album that comes with the car. There is also a Datenkarte confirming the fact this is indeed a matching numbers car. In short, this Mercedes-Benz 190SL not only looks the part, it drives as well as the looks suggest.
