The offered vehicle was inspected by one of our Catawiki experts.

The offered vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL which left the factory in 1960, delivered new in the USA. It was imported into Europe in 1992.

The overall condition of this vehicle is satisfactory, it looks really nice in an unusual British green, and works normally: the engine runs well when it is warm, there are no problems with the transmission, the steering or the brakes. A lot of work has been done on the vehicle, accompanied by numerous invoices and documents.

Body and paintwork:

Extensive work was done on the body between 2013 and 2016 (illustrated in the restoration file included with the vehicle) which seems to have been done properly: the expert did a comprehensive inspection of the body with a magnet which did not indicate any hidden corrosion or hazardous repairs.
The paintwork was also redone and shows some minor signs of wear and overall a slightly weathered appearance, which will make the car easier to use than one in competition condition.

Interior:

The upholstery was also redone by professionals (with invoice), and it is in very good condition. The carpets were also replaced, however the carpets behind the seats show some signs of moisture.
The interior is in satisfactory condition, its comfortable seats will make long journeys pleasant for the future owner.

Underbody and chassis:

The expert examined the underside of the vehicle and found no serious signs of corrosion or signs of accidents. The undercarriage was examined with a magnet and showed no signs of hazardous repairs.

Mechanics:

The engine has been fitted with two double-body Weber 40DCOE106 carburettors, giving it extra power and an improved sound. The vehicle is also equipped with an electronic ignition system, which facilitates cold starts and accurate adjustments.
The block shows external corrosion, probably due to a faulty cylinder head gasket which leaked coolant. However, the cylinder head gasket seems to have been replaced, the engine doesn't overheat.
The lower part of the engine has a few small leaks, typical of cars from this period, but there are no major leaks.
The transmission shows no defects during use.
The running gear seems to be in good condition, some silent blocks show signs of wear.
The differential shows greasy marks which suggests a defect in the seal.

Overall condition:

The offered vehicle is in overall sound and pleasant condition, some minor repairs on the sealing will be required to ensure a flawless mechanical condition.

The vehicle can be viewed in the Paris region.
