The Mercedes Benz 190 SL Roadster, series W121, BII offered here comes from an important collection and was decommissioned (conserved) in 2018. As part of a restoration, it was repainted and the interior was also renewed. Since then it shines in the beautiful and classic color combination silver, leather red. The original colors at delivery were white DB 50, leather black 953. Also a new engine was installed, but the original transmission was retained.

Whoever sits down in the 190 will be convinced by a first-class restoration work in the interior. Leather and carpets are accurately fitted with attention to detail. The technology also makes a flawless impression.

This Mercedes Benz 190 SL Roadster is in as-delivered condition and can be woken from its slumber at any time. Thus, nothing stands in the way of trips in bright sunshine and exciting classic car rallies.

History of the series

The 190 SL was intended as a sporty touring car alongside the 300 SL to expand business in the American market. The idea for the vehicle came from the American general importer Max Hoffmann, who brought it to the attention of the Board of Management and finally convinced it to go ahead. In 1954, the 190 SL was presented for the first time at the New York Auto Show and aroused much enthusiasm. It was then further revised to make it look closer to the 300 SL and finally presented in its final form at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1955.

Technically, the vehicle was based on the Ponton saloon (W 121). Described at the time as a "touring sports car", the 190 SL had many of the same styling elements as its "big brother", the 300 SL, especially the front end. Technically, however, much was taken over from the Ponton models, such as the chassis and the floor assembly. The carburetor engine, on the other hand, was newly developed especially for the 190 SL (M 121 B II).

A vehicle with a sporty look and high suitability for everyday use which is still very much admired today.
