For the ultra-wealthy, ownership of a Mercedes-Benz limousine has been almost a prerequisite of entry to the global elite. As the foundation of the top-line models from 1979–1991, the W126 chassis was also the basis of custom limousines built for heads of state, celebrities and royalty.

This particular example, originally produced for the Middle East as a 560SEL long-wheelbase sedan, was customized by extending the chassis approximately another 14 in. for additional legroom, a privacy partition and an entertainment centre in the luxurious rear seat area. Build records show that the car was originally delivered to Syria and unfortunately, further ownership history is not known for certain. Rumoured to have been owned by a member of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates, a service tag in the door jamb shows that it was serviced at 570 km in June 2003 by the Dubai Government Workshop.

It was purchased by the current owner in Bahrain in early 2016 and shipped to Switzerland, where it has remained ever since. Today, it presents in excellent condition throughout and would be an interesting acquisition for any collection.

Ein Mercedes-Benz in Langversion war immer schon eine Art automobile Eintrittskarte in die internationale Elite. Das Chassis des von 1979 bis 1991 gebauten W126 bildete auch die Grundlage für verlängerte Varianten für Staatschefs, Prominente und Adelige.

Dieser ursprünglich für einen Kunden im Nahen Osten gebaute 560 SEL wurde im Radstand um knapp 36 cm verlängert, um Platz im Fond zu schaffen für mehr Beinraum, eine Trennwand und eine Entertainmentanlage. Unterlagen über den Bau des Fahrzeugs belegen, dass es ursprünglich nach Syrien geliefert wurde. Leider ist die weitere Geschichte jedoch zunächst im Dunkeln. Gerüchten zufolge mag der Wagen einem Mitglied der königlichen Familie in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten gehört haben – einem Wartungsaufkleber im Türrahmen nach wurde der Wagen bei km 570 in der Werkstatt der Regierung von Dubai gewartet.

Der heutige Besitzer hat diesen Wagen 2016 in Bahrain erstanden und ihn in die Schweiz verschifft, wo er seitdem verblieben ist. Diese Langlimousine präsentiert sich heute in durch und durch exzellentem Zustand und wäre eine fantastische Ergänzung für jede Mercedes-Sammlung.
