The Mercedes-Benz W187 was made from 1951 to 1955. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in April 1951, it was powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine and available as saloon, coupe and convertible, all designated by the model name 220. Despite its reputation of before the Second World War as a manufacturer of luxury cars, in the post-war years Mercedes only produced passenger cars with 4 cylinders until 1951. The W187 Mercedes-Benz 220 and the flagship W186 Mercedes-Benz 300 Adenauer introduced together in 1951, the first Mercedes with again a 6-cylinder engine.
The saloon went out of production in May 1954; the Cabriolet models continued for another 15 months until August 1955.

The Mercedes-Benz 220 A Cabriolet that we offer here was built in 1952 and was bought in 1961 by W.R. Barry, an American soldier stationed in Germany. He later took the car to the USA and sold it to Claude Dyer of Tulsa Oklahoma in 1973. He kept the beautiful Mercedes until 1985 and passed it into the hands of Jose F. Lisboa from Norman Oklahoma. This owner leaves for Portugal in 1993 and takes his Mercedes with him. In 2017 the car is regsitered in Germany and was fully restored there. Afterwards it was driven very little and we can now offer a fine 220 A Cabriolet.
