In August 1953, the 180 was presented, the first Mercedes-Benz car to adopt the “Ponton” bodywork. This body not only reduced drag and aerodynamic noise, but also made the passenger compartment much more spacious. Characteristic features of this body shape, which was first made in the United States in 1946, were the fully integrated fenders and rectangular base profile.
In March 1956 came the 190, sister of the previous model and equipped with a 75 HP engine, which made it much more powerful.
