This 220 S coupe is an absolute original car. It came back to Germany from America in 2011 and is currently in second ownership according to the owner. The car has matching numbers and matching colors. However, it was repainted in the original color a long time ago.

The red leather, carpets, headliner and rosewood are in wonderful and original condition. Even the trunk still has the original carpet.

As a special extra the car has a hydraulic automatic clutch "Hydrak". This combines a hydraulic clutch for starting, a conventional single-disc dry clutch for engaging and disengaging when changing gears, and a freewheel to bypass the hydraulic clutch.

Technically, the vehicle has always been serviced and maintained, it runs very cleanly and has also been moved regularly by the owner. Its excellent technical condition allows spontaneous trips in the vicinity and further. The vehicle is distinguished not only by its beautiful shape, but also by its very original appearance.

History of the series
The four-cylinder Ponton models appeared as early as 1953, until a year later six-cylinder enthusiasts also got their money's worth. The sedan (220 a) was launched first, followed by the convertible in July 1956 and finally the 220 S coupe three months later. All pontoons were based on a self-supporting body, unlike the pre-war models and the 300 series (e.g. W 186), which were still built on a separate chassis.

In August 1957, the model series was revised. The main feature was the increased power output to 78 kW (106 hp) and the modification of the license plate trim on the front bumper and the license plate illumination on the rear bumper.

Just 1,251 of the coupes with carburetor engines were built during this period - only a few of them with sunroofs. With the basic equipment, the 220 S Coupé was sold for approx. 21,500 DM - a proud sum for those times.
