Description

The magnificent Mercedes-Benz W100 Series 600 was one of the most prestigious and expensive luxury cars on the world stage in its day, and is among the most formal and opulent models ever offered by the lauded company. Brimming with creature comforts, and designed on a truly grand scale, the imposing 600 was Mercedes-Benz’s exclusive flagship from 1963 to 1981, and was built in very small numbers in a variety of configurations. The 600 used engine-driven hydraulics for operating multiple systems, including windows, seats, and an adjustable air suspension that provided unrivaled ride quality. Given its myriad amenities and 5,400 lb. overall weight, a 6.3-liter V-8 engine producing 250 hp and 369 lbs./ft. of torque was specially developed for the Grosser (Greater) Mercedes-Benz, which was capable of 127 mph.

This owner-driver configured 600, finished from new in Black (DB 040) paint with a seldom-seen gray cloth interior, was one of only 184 short-wheelbase versions built in 1968. It was owned by a family of automotive connoisseurs in Utah from 1972 to 2022, and showed under 76,000 miles on its odometer at the time of cataloguing. The 600 has not seen any road use since 1998, and has had some recent attention paid to the braking and suspension systems by a Mercedes-Benz factory-trained technician. It will require further mechanical service to its systems before being road ready. Today, 60 years following its introduction, the 600 model has lost none of its commanding presence, with this SWB example being no exception.
