The 300, one of Mercedes-Benz's first post-war designs, made its debut at the 1951 Frankfurt Motor Show and re-established the Stuttgart company at the forefront of prestigious car manufacturers - a return to the brand's tradition of building high-performance luxury cars of the highest quality .

The 300's cross-braced oval-tube chassis followed the lines of the 170S and 220 with independent all-round and four-wheel drum brakes, but included the added enhancements of hypoid-cone final drive, dynamically balanced wheels and rear suspension electric remote ride height. The 3.0-litre overhead cam flat-six used in the 300 SL sports car with fuel injection and producing 115 hp was uprated for the subsequent 300b and 300c models, finally gaining fuel injection in the 1957 Re 300d. More Improvements along the way included larger brakes (with power assistance from 1954), optional power steering (on the 300d) and the introduction of the three-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The 300 was the car of choice among West German government officials and was widely favored by businessmen, financiers and politicians across Europe and the USA. Indeed, 'Adenauer' became the unofficial model name of the 300, after German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, his most famous customer.

This beautiful Cabriolet D is the rarest of the 300 variants and one of just 262 Cabriolet models built in 1952 out of a total production of 591. Of these, only a relative handful featured this superbly proportioned four-door cabriolet body.

This matching numbers Adenauer was restored to concours condition by its previous owner.

The restoration started in September 2013 and was completed in March 2014. The mechanical work of the conversion was entrusted to SIM engines from Frauenkappelen, Switzerland. This outstanding classic Mercedes in blue with a gray leather interior is offered with Swiss Carte Grise.
