Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1959, the Mercedes W111 caused a sensation with the public and symbolized the renewal of the brand. The design was modern, the mechanicals powerful and the finish was of a high quality. Safety was also not forgotten since this version was crash tested.
The car on offer was registered on May 14, 1964, and in the mid-1970s, it was re-registered in the Creuse region. Its previous owner had owned the car since 1990. Purchased in 2013, this pretty sedan has benefited from numerous preparatory work for participating in Paris-Beijing rally. In its original state, it has benefited from a new two-tone paint, and the numbers on the doors, as well as the absence of hubcaps further accentuate this "racing" preparation. Sound overall, the body has some minor imperfections and traces of corrosion. In 2014, the tires, shock absorbers and exhaust were replaced, while the braking system was overhauled. The rocker panels and the tank were treated in 2016. Then, in 2017, the current rims were fitted, the clutch was redone and a proven and rectified cylinder head was installed. A 2019 expert report mentions a complete mechanical overhaul by a marque professional. The upholstery in grey leatherette is in good condition. This sporty-looking sedan is reminiscent of the 220SE, which won the 1960 Rally Monte Carlo.
