1986 Maserati BiTurbo
Year of manufacture1986

The launch of the Maserati 420 took place in 1985: introduced at the same time as the 420, the 420 S with a sportier character saw a power output increase by 30 hp, thus reaching 205 hp with a two-litre engine. This increase was largely due to the use of air-to-air twin intercoolers, the presence of which was revealed by the two NACA air intakes on the bonnet.
This Maserati was auctioned on 12 April on Catawiki, the buyer did not complete the purchase and did not view the car, was suspended from Catawiki and the car is being offered again at auction.
The body has a two-tone paint scheme, in this case a beautiful and original bright CINNABAR RED on a grey base in the lower part of the body, with blackened chrome finishes. The paint is worn and shows various imperfections and blooming (see photos).
The two-tone leather interior (cream/brown) that characterises the seats and the dashboard, together with the orange central tunnel and door panels, create a chromatic effect that gives light and a touch of elegance without losing its sportiness.
The chassis and underbody are solid, with signs of surface corrosion due to normal use.
5-speed manual transmission.
Car in working order; it starts and the engine runs free, but it has not been driven since 2020. A mechanical check is required before driving it on the road; for example, the brakes need servicing; ready for auxiliary gas system.
Only 2810 units of 420 S were produced: equipped with a very personal and charming style. This auction could be an opportunity to buy a car with a decidedly aggressive and dynamic design, that is among the universally recognised qualities of the Maserati Biturbo.
The feeler gauge test was carried out on the body and showed no major accidents (as shown in photos).
A compression test gave very good results (as shown in photos).
Some videos of the car and its engine are available; please, contact Catawiki.
