Lotus launched a legend in 1962, the Lotus Elan. The new Elan offered improved handling, performance and had a less fragile feel to its overall design. Below the Elan bonnet sat a twin-cam four cylinder engine which would become a legend in its own right, powering other classic Lotus models including the Cortina sports-saloons. Colin Chapman was confident, both as an engineer and as a family man, that in the new Lotus Elan +2, they would have one of the finest cars available for the discerning motorist who demands safety, performance, styling and comfort in a motor car which reflects his or her own taste and ideas.
