Description

Absolutely unique "London Cab". This is an original Dutch supplied copy, purchased for the 50th birthday of the only and last owner. Yes, you read that right, an English taxi, originally delivered in the Netherlands, with the steering wheel on the right side. This is a Carbodies FX4R. The FX4R was the successor to the FX4 and R stands for Rover. Carbodies took over ownership of the Taxi in 1982 when the parent company Austin was no longer interested in it. The FX4R had several improvements over the previous FX4 series, including power steering and power brakes. The special thing about this copy is as follows: there was an Arab Sheikh in the early 80s who had ordered 6 of these FX4Rs in a "personalized" version. The personalized part is as follows: the car is equipped with a partition wall, 1 luxury sofa and three folding seats, air conditioning in the rear, a manual transmission with five gears and a petrol engine. The Sheikh eventually took 5 from the factory and this copy was not taken. The first owner was looking for a classic car that could still be driven in 15 years' time without any technical knowledge. That is how the idea came to go for a "London Cab". A car with a classic appearance and modern and reliable technology. For the 50th anniversary, the Carbodies Taxi and Hire Car factory was contacted. The car that the gentleman at the time could get a discount on and where the steering wheel was already on the right side, was this FX4R that was canceled by the Arab Sheikh. This unique car was not enjoyed for 15 years, but over 35 years! This car was always at the second house, was rarely used and has now only driven 19,000 kilometers! Documented and demonstrably from the first owner. Even all original correspondence between the factory and first owner is still present! Unique and no second for sale in this version. To get a good impression of the car we advise you to come to one of the viewing days.
