Description

"The Series II Land Rover replaced Series I production in 1958, initially sporting the original two litre engine from the Series I. Once supply ran dry, the 2286cc engine was introduced, which has proven to be a popular and reliable unit ever since. Designs changed over the following years, with the most significant being the moving of the headlights to the wings in 1969 - this model still had the 'hard dash' familiar with other Series II models. Also introduced at this time was the razor style bonnet and Maltese grille; later to be followed by the plastic grille as used on the Series III. The SII and the SIIA are very difficult to distinguish. There were some minor cosmetic changes but the most significant change was under the bonnet in the guise of the new 2.25 litre diesel engine. Body configurations available from the factory ranged from short wheelbase soft-top to the top-of-the-line five door station wagon. From February 1969 (home market), the headlamps moved into the wings on all models and the sill panels were redesigned to be shallower a few months afterwards.
Manufactured on 26th March 1968 and dispatched to T.Baker & Sons in Reading three days later, this Series II Land Rover is complete although in need of recommissioning and some restoration. The aluminium bodywork appears to be in pretty good order although the paintwork will need refreshing. The interior will require a little tidying although perfectly useable as it is if required. The impression this Land Rover gives is that it has not had a hard life and has just been parked up recently, the last MoT expired on 4th July 2017. Supplied with a V5C registration document bearing the registration number 490 PF which is being sold with the car and a Heritage Certificate; offered for sale at a very sensible reserve given the current condition and attractive number plate."
