In May 1986, Lancia presented the Thema 8.32, known as the 'Thema Ferrari'; the 8.32 stood for the number of cylinders and valves in its engine.

The engine delivered 215 hp derived from the Ferrari Mondial Quattrovalvole, immediately making this model the most powerful front-wheel-drive production car on the market.

The 8.32 had luxury interior for the time.
The interior is entirely coated in burr wood, Frau leather and/or Alcantara seats.
Some features were exclusive: the automatically retractable rear headrests, electronic suspension with automatic or sport settings selected by the driver, dashboard with analogue instruments fitted on a genuine burr wood panel and Ferrari-style vents, up to the retractable rear wing in the boot, which could be activated by turning the windscreen wiper control lever.

3,520 units were produced between the first and second series, including 2 units of a special numbered series (II Series) in Ferrari Red colour. The only officially recognised Thema 8.32 I Series in Ferrari Red colour was owned by Abarth and used by Cesare Fiorio.
