Description

Lancia is renowned in the automotive world for introducing cars with numerous innovations and so is the Lambda: it is one of the most innovative, forward-thinking production cars of all time. Surviving examples are treasured by knowledgeable enthusiasts for their unbeatable combination of advanced engineering and superb driving qualities.

We are pleased to present you this incomparably original Lancia Lambda on behalf of its owner.

''Il Leone Australiano'' was delivered by the Shields Motor Company of Melbourne, Australia, to Mr. Robert Barr-Smith on 7 April 1930. In 1934, she was acquired by Mr. R.H. Edgar, a well-known Lancia proponent who owned several Lambda variants. The car remained in Mr. Edgar's family for 78 (!) years.

When the car arrived in Holland with the present owner 5 years ago, she still had tyres from 1950 and the car was still drivable. However the decision was made to refurbish her without touching the lovely patina. The car still has the original hood (!), original chrome, original bodywork, original chassis and running gear, original engine/gearbox, front and rear axles, brakes, carburetor, ignition, suspension, original 22 inch colonial wire wheels, much original leather, etc. etc.

Every mechanical part was taken apart and checked and rebuilt by our excellent mechanics. The engine was send to our friends in Italy well known from previous work done and excellent Lambda specialists. The decision was made to rebuilt it to 3.0 litres (instead of 2.570cc) giving 100 bhp on the dyno and 300 nm of torque at 2000 rpm. This was a long and exhausting job and quite expensive too. A total of circa 150.000 euro was spend on the refurbishment. The result is a very quick and gorgeous looking spectacular sounding car with its big powerful 4-cylinder engine. All parts replaced or changed come with the car.

When finished the car was used with great succes on 3 Mille Miglias in 2017 (167th overall), 2018 (35th overall) and 2019 (54th overall) and several other events as the Gran Premio Nuvolari or the 100 Miles of Amsterdam.

This Lancia Lambda is in remarkable original condition. The car has been painted once to its present colour, which dates back to 1934.
We believe this is one of the best and most original 8th series short chassis cars anywhere to be found and a rare opportunity to buy a turn key, prepared original car.

Price is euro 275.000,-.

Please do ask for more pictures or better come and see this extraordinary example in our gallery.

The car comes with an extensive history file, including the extraordinarily detailed order form and bill of sale to Mr. Barr-Smith, a letter from the Edgar family that confirms their ownership and an Australian registration certificate.
