Having almost limitless horsepower and torque available underfoot is meaningless unless that urge can be put to the pavement, hence Lamborghini's decision to adopt a new all-wheel-drive system to its already thrilling Diablo for the 1993 model year. Originally penned by the brilliant Marcello Gandini in 1985 and based on the company's Project 132 design study, the first wedge-shaped Diablo appeared in mid-1990. It was a worthy successor to the fabled, otherworldly Countach and quickly became the definitive poster car of the 1990s.

Gandini retained the space frame and composite/alloy bodywork of the Countach – including those wonderful scissor-style, vertically-opening doors, and pop-up headlights. The Diablo utilized a longitudinal, mid-mounted, atmospheric four-cam, four-valve V12 of 5.7-liters with electronic sequential multi-port fuel injection. This elegant engine produced 485 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, tremendous numbers for its day, but as its owners soon learned, far more than the rear-wheel-drive layout could manage under hard acceleration. The solution was to make the Diablo all-wheel-drive. The Diablo VT (Viscous Traction) system was introduced just three years later. The new VT drive system could send as much as 25 percent of the engine's output to the front axle when rear wheelspin was detected. Now able to absorb the engine's astonishing power, the VT delivered 0-100 kph (62 mph) sprints in barely four seconds, a standing quarter-mile in 12.4, and thanks to its excellent aerodynamics, could reach an astounding 208 mph. Road & Track magazine called it "The world's fastest all-wheel-drive automobile". The VT also brought many additional comfort and convenience improvements over the base Diablo.

Offered here is a gorgeous, late Series 1 Diablo VT Coupe which departed the factory at Sant'Agata Bolognese in July 1995. It was finished in the elegant hue of "Rosso" over a black leather interior and red carpeting. Its chassis number reveals that it is a US-specification model featuring climate control, electrically-adjustable driver and passenger seats, and three-piece O.Z. Racing aluminum wheels. Brakes are Brembo ventilated discs with four-piston calipers in front and two-piston on the rears. Desirable factory options include a rear wing, a front lift system, and a premium Alpine stereo radio and CD system.

This Diablo VT's Carfax report shows it having had three registered owners from new, the first being in Idaho, then a brief period in Minnesota, and finally for the past 20 years, as part of a Florida collection. At the time of cataloging its odometer displays just over 13,400 kilometers (8,330 miles).

This car was most recently serviced in the summer of 2022, for which the work included an oil and fluid change, new filters, and new hydraulic struts for the hood and engine lids. A rare opportunity to acquire a stunning, very original example of Lamborghini's first all-wheel-drive supercar, this Diablo VT is supplied with a clean Carfax report, an owner's manual, a tool roll, and a package of spare belts and emergency accessories.
