The final model in Jaguar’s XK series, the XK 150 was launched in May 1957, following on from the XK 120 and XK 140. Building on its established international reputation, Jaguar continued to develop the XK series, which had originally been introduced with a 3.4-litre in-line six. The main change to its appearance was the adoption of a one-piece curved windscreen. It had more modern styling, influenced by the design of the contemporary Jaguar Mark 1 and Mark 2 saloons. From a technical point of view, the XK 150 kept the same chassis design as well as the rack-and-pinion steering introduced on the XK 140. For the first time too it had disc brakes as standard. The first engine offered was the 3.4-litre unit developing 190bhp, mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with optional overdrive. A three-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission was also available. The following year, an ‘S’ version of the 3.4-litre engine was introduced with three SU HD8 carburettors, which enabled it to develop 250bhp. In December 1960, production of the Roadster came to an end, followed by the Fixed Head Coupé in February 1961 and the Drophead Coupé in July that year.

The model we are offering today is an XK 150 3.4-litre Fixed Head Coupé, first registered in February 1959 in New York. It is presented here in its original specification, with cream paintwork and red leather upholstery, in accordance with its Jaguar Heritage certificate. Its current owner purchased the Jaguar in 2006 from a private owner in Belgium, paying 35,000€. Since then, he has taken care to maintain the car regularly and to restore it sensitively. In addition to the numerous bills on file since 2007, the XK 150 was recently given a full respray and its red leather upholstery was partially restored. The owner wished to keep everything that could be kept, and in particular the door cards and rear seats, which have a most attractive patina. Overall, this XK 150 coupé is in very fine condition, with faultlessly aligned panels and an engine in perfect running order. The engine and cylinder head are original, and the car still has its four-speed Moss gearbox. When we tested the car, we appreciated its overall behaviour, with the installation of electronic ignition providing a noteworthy improvement. Apart from a slight squeal coming from the steering column, the engine proved to be in good health. The six-cylinder XK engine climbs progressively through the rev range, while the brakes lived up to our expectations. This model is, without a doubt, one of the finest examples we have had the opportunity to drive over the past few years.
