This Jaguar XK120 roadster is an alloy-bodied special that was custom built around 2009 by Jason Len of XKs Unlimited, paying homage to Jaguar’s three 1951 lightweight works race cars. The car features hand-formed, unpainted aluminum bodywork over a custom-made tube frame based on that of a Jaguar C-Type.
Power is provided by a modified “E type” 3.8-liter XK inline-six that was sourced from an E-Type and is fitted with triple Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, performance camshafts, larger valves, a Vertex magneto, an aluminum flywheel. Exhaust flows through custom, long branch, tubular exhaust headers and routed through twin mufflers, recessed in the drivers’ side lower wing. Power is delivered through modified Borg-Warner T5 five-speed manual gearbox, Franklin quick change differential & E-Type rear axles. The cooling system features a custom aluminum radiator with an electric fan and an oil cooler

Suspension is supported by adjustable Koni coil over shock absorbers. Wilwood disc brakes with vented rotors provide the stopping power. Replica 15″ Dunlop center lock alloy wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are shod with speed rated Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires. Steering is manual rack and pinion.
Aluminum body panels were hand fabricated and remain unpainted. Custom touches feature one piece front wing and cowl section, removable louvred hood panel, outside hinged doors tilt-up tail section, drivers’ headrest fairing, a cold air intake aperture to the right of the front grille, and oval front valance cutouts. Cutouts above the grille were inspired by Alfa Romeo race cars of the 1930s. The custom-made chassis is modeled on a C-Type tube frame and incorporates added stiffening and other adjustments to accommodate the upgraded suspension components.

Bucket seats are upholstered in Moss Green leather. Color-matched trim covers the center tunnel, upper dash, door caps, rear bulkhead, and single headrest. The dash layout was inspired by Jaguar’s D-Type. Vintage, reproduced “D”Type instrumentation includes a 180-mph, reverse twist speedometer, an 8k-rpm chronometric tachometer, as well as fuel level, oil temperature, coolant temperature, oil pressure, amp gauges and vintage style switch gear. The five-digit odometer indicates that just over 1k miles have been added since the build was completed,

Additional equipment includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, faired-in cowl mirror, Brooklands-style windscreens.

Important safety equipment include: on board pressurized fire system, Fuel Safe fuel cell and 4 point safety harnesses.

This car was the subject of a Jay Leno’s Garage segment in 2015.
