When reading the history pages about the Jaguar Mark V, the Jaguar enthusiast becomes a bit melancholy. What a leading and innovative brand Jaguar was. The Jaguar Mark V was a car with which Jaguar showed a lot of things for the first time. This model was the first Jaguar with, among other things: sealed headlights, integrated turn signals, the possibility to order both a left-hand drive and a right-hand-drive version of the same model, independent front suspension, hydraulic brakes and "spats" (the screens over the rear wheels). . The Jaguar Mark V was introduced at the same time as the XK120 at the 1948 London Motor Show. The Mark V was a much bigger sales success than the XK120. Jaguar sold 5,000 Mark Vs a year against 2,000 XK120s. In this case, the Mark V is equipped with a fully overhauled 3.5-litre valve tappet six-in-line. The engine produces 125 horsepower and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Jaguar built a total of 10,499 Mark Vs of which only 577 were delivered as left-hand drive Drophead Coupé.

This example was delivered new in New Zealand in 1951. The car came to the Netherlands in 2001 and has had only one owner for the past 22 years. He took excellent care of the car. This Jaguar Mark V Drophead Coupé has been fully restored and overhauled. A process in which neither expense nor effort has been spared to achieve a beautiful result. Shortly after purchase in 2000, the car received a completely new stainless steel exhaust and in 2010 the engine was completely overhauled. In the intervening period, all attachments were renewed. For example, the cooling was renewed, a new starter relay was installed, the wishbone rubbers were renewed, the steering box was overhauled, a new petrol pump was fitted and the car received a new alternator. Naturally, the brakes were completely redone. After all the work, the car was a pleasure to drive, but the appearance was also due for restoration by now. In 2013, the icing on the cake in terms of technology was added. To further improve the touring characteristics of the car, the Jaguar received a revised four-speed transmission and an overdrive. Restoration started in the fall of 2013. The car was stripped and restored in detail. Reconstruction could start again in 2016. The car was then fitted with new tires and new side windows and also received a completely new interior.

With due observance of the above, it will not surprise you that this is a beautiful car. We can therefore conclude that this is a very extensive restoration and overhaul and that this Jaguar Mark V is ready for the next 70 years of its life.

The bodywork still looks beautiful. The sheet metal is beautifully thin everywhere and the paint is also in very good condition. The chrome work has been completely renewed. The work on the bodywork and paintwork was very well done at the time. The convertible top has also been renewed and is also in top condition. The hood fits perfectly everywhere and is a jewel for the car both open and closed.

The interior has been completely reupholstered with a great eye for detail and originality. While the work for the cladding was underway, it was also decided to fully restore the existing wood. It, therefore, seems to be a new car. The whole is beautifully cared for and, as you will understand, in top condition.

The technique needed no more than a minor service after the restoration. The engine runs excellent and is wonderfully smooth. The character of the bike fits perfectly with the relaxed driving behaviour of the Mark V and the stately looks.

The restoration and overhaul are beautifully documented, both digitally and on paper, and will of course be delivered with the car. There are many photos of the car available as well as invoices and timesheets of the work performed. In short, a beautiful Jaguar Mark V Drophead Coupé in a beautiful condition.
