Description

"Introduced in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation when it appeared with its instantly classic lines and 150mph top speed. While, inevitably, the car's stupendous straight-line performance and gorgeous looks grabbed the headlines, there was a lot more to the E-Type beneath the skin. The newcomer's design owed much to that of the racing D-Type and, indeed, the E-Type would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was the same 3.8 litre, triple-carburettor, 'S' unit first offered as an option on the preceding XK150. With a claimed 265 horsepower on tap, the E-Type's performance did not disappoint. Mainly because it weighed around 500lb less than the XK150 but also, because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car.
Delivered new in 1967, this wonderful matching numbers example is finished in the very elegant colour combination of metallic blue over a dark blue leather interior and is presented in superb order throughout. Converted to right hand drive from its original left hand drive guise, this E-Type is one of the best we have ever seen. Professionally restored by marque specialists, the car has undergone a full bare metal respray as well as a complete interior retrim and consequently presents fabulously. During the restoration, this Jaguar was treated to an engine, gearbox, and rear differential rebuild and as such is in very good order throughout, the original matching numbers engine is included in the sale although it’s not currently fitted to the car. The brake and clutch master cylinders were rebuilt, and a new wiring loom, ancillaries and carburettors were also fitted. This very well-presented example comes complete with a history file detailing the restoration, many sundry invoices, and the current UK V5 registration document. Huge amounts of money have been spent bringing this E-Type to its current condition and it’s certainly one of the best we have seen. The perfect candidate for those long-distance continental tours or that summer trip to the south of France.
