Probably the most readily recognizable of all collector sports cars and certainly the most likely to be heading any serious addict‘s wish list is the Jaguar E Type. The XK120, 140 and 150 line was always going to be a difficult act to follow, but the E Type rapidly outsold them all. Borrowing much from the race proven technology of the legendary D Type, the first production E Type with 265bhp 3.8 litre engine from the XK150, which it directly replaced, was announced in March 1961. Thanks to low drag bodywork and lighter monocoque construction the performance of both open roadster and hard top coupe E type, initially with headlamps fared in behind wind cheating cowls, was extraordinary for the early 1960‘s.
