Description

The Thunderbird ('T-Bird') was manufactured over eleven model generations from 1955 through to 2005. The second to fourth generation Thunderbird convertibles were similar in design to the Lincoln convertible of the time and borrowed from earlier Ford hardtop/convertible designs. While these Thunderbird models had a true convertible soft top, the top was lowered to stow in the boot area, considerably reducing available boot space when the top was down. The overall appearance was a sleek look with no trace of a convertible top at all.
First registered on the 1st January 1957, this Thunderbird can only be described as beautiful, a series three example which, importantly, is the last of the first model released, this T-Bird has the desirable porthole hardtop along with the contrasting soft top, tonneau cover and unique checker plate design dash. Imported into the UK in July 2015, the car has obviously seen little or no rain in its former life and is UK road registered and used sparingly. The 5122cc, V8 engine performs and sounds exquisite and 509 UYM is finished in gleaming white with contrasting and refurbished interior trim. Importantly, this car from factory was specified with a number of options, namely power steering, power brakes and an automatic gearbox, all of which transform the driving experience of a car now 60 years old. Other options included electric windows and even power seats, whilst the period white wall tyres are described as perfect by the owner. Oceans of gleaming chrome and excellent condition make this a stunning looking T-Bird. Recent maintenance which includes power steering overhaul and a service, Thunderbirds are hard to find in such excellent condition and with the added options making this a relaxing drive, there are very few driving experiences that can compete, easily out performs a 190SL and at a fraction of the cost!
