Carlo adopted his Scorpio birth sign as the logo for his company and soon evolved into a car manufacturer in his own right. Fiat most often supplied the body shells or partly completed cars, which Abarth modified and the Fiat/Abarth collaboration benefited both concerns, particularly in motorsport, since the many class victories captured by Abarth in fierce competition throughout Europe shone a favourable spotlight on Fiat's range of motor cars Mechanically, the Abarth 595 was a vastly improved car over the standard Fiat 500 with special pistons, valves, a high-lift camshaft and large downdraft Solex or Weber carburettor. The power output increased from 22bhp at 4400 rpm to 32bhp at 6000 rpm. The suspension was stiffened and lowered and the coachwork adorned with Abarth badges inside and out. These little cars were raced, rallied, and hill climbed all over Europe and won countless saloon championships. This little Abarth is based on the 1964 Fiat 500D which still featured rear-hinged doors, laterreversed with the arrival of the 500F in 1965,and weunderstand that it was imported fromItaly and first registered in the UK on01/01/2004. It's inevitable with the number of Fiat 500s from this era still in circulation and the popularity of Carlo Abarth's little racers that there are lots of 'pretend' Abarths out there, some cheap copies and some genuine recreations, so it's really important when considering one of these cars that its originality and provenance are completely clear. This examplecomes complete with its original Italian number plates and a letter from the Automobile Club DItalia confirming its Abarth Status. It's also accompanied by a rare copy of "Abarth 595/695" by Elvio Deganello & Renato Donati. Known as the 'Abarth Bible' this book is dedicated to those who have owned, loved and driven these cars. It'sa 'purchase and restoration guide'with colour images andoffers a census of the still existing specimens (including this car 100149 TN/DCK 108B), the technical characteristics of each "derivative" and the history of the races that saw it as a protagonist on the circuits from 1964 to 1974. In the book, there is a singleblack and white photoof this car on a road rally in the period (which might be fun to investigate) also helping to confirm the car's authenticity.Prior to our vendor's purchase in 2017, the car was stripped to bare metal to double-check the quality of the bodywork, which was found to be sound, so it was treated to several coats of gleaming Bianco prior to carefully refittingthe correct Abarth badging. In terms of originality, the car remains fitted with original Abarth engine components, original Abarth wheels,period-style bucket seats, theoriginal Abarth steering wheel and original Jaeger/Abarth instrument panel. We understand that it's lots offun to drive, with nippy performance, dynamic handling and makes a great noise. This immaculate, originalAbarth 595 is adelightful example of a very rare car.1964 Fiat Abarth 595https://youtu.be/T6BALZa6kR4false
