Description

In the 1950s and well into the 1960s, a sports car of exceptionally light weight and with capabilities far out of proportion to its small-displacement engine was fondly referred to as a “giant killer.” With its aluminum double-bubble Zagato body, this sub-1,200-lbs. 750 GT is one of about 600 originally produced by Abarth.

The 750 GT was purchased new in Italy by one Sig. Tomasetti and remained in his family, passing from his son to Paolo Maria Ravazzi of Parma, Italy. The Abarth’s FIVA paperwork was issued in 1995 and, prior to its stateside importation around 2000, it became a veteran of European rallies such as the Tour Auto.

As offered, the Fiat-Abarth remains correct with an appropriate repaint in light blue. It is engaging throughout with proper badging and period fog lights, the inviting interior is fitted with Zagato-style seats, and the original front bumperettes are included. The 747 cc engine was recently rebuilt by Toby Knapp of Connecticut using high-strength chromoly internal components. An electronic ignition system was added as well as a performance air filter atop a larger carburetor.

An incredibly engaging lightweight sports car, this wonderful little double-bubble Abarth is sure to delight its next caretaker on the nearest twisty road.
