This 1959 Fiat 1200 Granluce is an original example owned by the same family between 1959 and 2012. It has 102, 000 kilometers on the odometer and has been cherished since its inception. It has been partially restored throughout its life.
In the 1990s, it was resprayed entirely in its original colour, and the interior was refurbished. In 2012 it was bought by a Maseratista and then purchased by a true Fiat aficionado. In recent years it has received a complete brake restoration, and a partial paint job.
The Granluce nickname – meaning full light in Italian – stems from the use of a wider windscreen and taller windows. The 1200 Granluce was the luxury version of a genuine people’s car. Its new lines allowed for lower production costs; thus, 000 Fiat 1200s were built between 1957 and 1961.
Like most attempts at democratizing the automobile, the 1200 was not appreciated for what it was until much later. As such, it has become a rare specimen, especially in Granluce iteration. The, 1221 cc engine produces 55 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox.
