THIS CAR
Representing the swan song of a long and storied chapter in Ferrari’s history, this beautifully maintained and highly original F512 M is a sensational example of the rare model.

Ferrari’s 12-cylinder road cars underwent a major paradigm shift in 1971 with the introduction of the 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer, which employed a rear-mounted flat 12-cylinder engine based on the company’s contemporary racing cars. This departure from the classic front-mounted V-12 proved to be quite successful, segueing through the modestly revised 512 Berlinetta Boxer of the late 1970s before giving way to the wildly successful Testarossa of the 1980s. In 1991, the Testarossa was updated to the 512 TR – indicating a five-liter, 12-cylinder engine – which ultimately led to the F512 M introduced in 1994. Produced for one year only in a limited production of just 501 examples, the final iteration of the flat-12 Testarossa featured covered headlamps and a NACA-duct hood. Three-piece modular wheels with curved spokes and a variety of interior refinements rounded out cosmetic upgrades, while the flat-12 engine received a power bump with the addition of titanium connecting rods, new pistons, and a lighter crankshaft.

This beautiful example of the most evolved Ferrari Testarossa is believed to be the 16th of only 75 cars specified for the US, and is thought to be one of very few originally finished in Canna di Fucile Metallico (Gun Metal Metallic) paint.

As F512 M examples were overwhelmingly finished in Rosso (Red) – 35 out of 38 cars recorded in the model’s online registry are painted red – the use of such a distinctive color lends a more elegant character to the seminal design. Owned by Ferrari enthusiasts through the 2000s, this car was purchased in 2010 by the well-known Danish driver and collector Juan Barazi. A veteran of the ALMS series and a six-time participant in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (including a run on Aston Martin’s 2010 team), Barazi is also known for his automobile collection and raced his Porsche 917 at the Goodwood Revival and Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix. Barazi had this F512 M tended to by a Ferrari dealer in San Diego several times, and a 2011 invoice notes, “Vehicle has all original parts.” Acquired by the consignor in 2014, this arresting Ferrari currently displays approximately 14,000 miles and has recently been serviced by Autosport Designs in Huntington Station, New York, to ensure strong cosmetic and mechanical order. With its rarity, unique color scheme, and ownership by a modern Le Mans veteran, this F512 M is a distinguished example of the ultimate modern Testarossa.
